Definition

A podcast is a digital audio file that you can download to your computer, smartphone, iPod, or tablet. Podcasts are typically available online as episodic series that you can subscribe to.

The term "podcast" was coined by reporter Ben Hammersley in 2004. Podcasts have consistently grown in listenership over the course of the last 15 years, and many commentators have compared them to old-school radio programs.

Podcasts are often sponsored by brands, or created by brands, as a way to capture audience attention.
